Pull Yourself Together: The Most Unusual Uses for CurtainsPosted 19/01/2016
At Loveless Cook Blinds, we’re passionate about home furnishings. Over the years, we’ve sold thousands of wholesale blinds and wholesale curtains – and now we have a made to measure service, so you can bring in any fabric of your choice for us to make into piped cushions, fully lined curtains or roman blinds. Here are some of the most unusual uses we’ve seen for curtains!

Costumes for the von Trapps

Costume designer Dorothy Jeakins was Oscar-nominated for her work in The Sound of Music. If you look at the flamboyant ‘curtain costumes’ the von Trapps spend a lot of the film in, it’s easy to see why.

When the iconic costumes went to auction in April 2013, they made over £1 million. The auctions manager Laura Yntema said:

“The costumes are especially interesting because they’re made of actual curtain fabric. The costume designer wanted to be as authentic as possible so this fabric, which is a canvas type of material, was used.”

A Wedding Dress

Bride-to-be Jo Butlin made her own wedding dress – from a pair of old curtains. Jo, 43, made the dress at a five-week design course run by Whiffle Pig, who provide free creative workshops for local charities. The blushing bride wore the pink silk dress at her handfast, a pagan wedding set outdoors.

Jo said: “It means more to me than just buying one or renting one. A lot of time and effort has gone into it.”
