Global Shading Day is coming up on 21st March, and it’s something we’re really pleased to be part of.
It’s one of those days that shines a light on something that often gets taken for granted. Shading doesn’t always get much attention, but it plays a bigger role in buildings than most people realise.
At Loveless Cook Blinds, it’s part of what we work with every day. Most conversations start quite simply - controlling light, adding privacy, making a space feel finished. But it doesn’t take long before you get into how a building actually performs, and that’s where shading really comes into its own.
A good example is temperature. We’ve all been in spaces that feel great in the morning, then by mid-afternoon they’re far too hot to be comfortable. Sunlight through large windows can build up heat quickly, and once it’s there, it’s difficult to manage. Shading helps deal with that early, keeping spaces cooler without relying so heavily on air conditioning.
Then in the cooler months, it works the other way too. Managing how heat moves through a space can help retain warmth and keep things feeling more consistent.
There’s also a bigger picture here. Energy use and sustainability are now part of everyday conversations in commercial projects. Shading isn’t the only answer, but it plays a useful role. By reducing the need for heating and cooling, it helps keep energy use down and supports buildings that are designed to perform better over time.
That’s really what Global Shading Day is about. It’s a chance to step back and recognise something that’s often working quietly in the background, but making a real difference. From our side, we’re always keen to be part of that conversation.
Loveless Cook Blinds is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of wholesale blinds, curtain poles, curtain tracks and accessories. We work closely with trade and commercial customers, helping them find solutions that don’t just look right, but actually improve how a space works day-to-day.
Whether that’s managing heat, reducing glare or simply making an environment more comfortable, it all adds up.
