Curtain tracks: Choosing the right tracks for your roomPosted 27/02/2014

Whether you are choosing curtain tracks for your own home, or are looking for the right product for a client, there are a few factors you should consider to ensure that you get the right curtain track for both the curtains you hope to hang and the style of room it will be positioned in.

Operation: When it comes to operation you have three options, manually operated, corded or electric, with each having its own benefits. Manual curtain tracks are the most economical and durable system available, requiring very little maintenance. Corded tracks are ideal for heavy, tall or difficult to reach curtains, whilst motorised tracks can open and close automatically by remote, wall switch, light activation or by timer - perfect if you require additional security when you are not at home.

Material: The most common materials are PVC, aluminium or steel. Due to the lightweight and flexible nature of PVC tracks, they are most commonly used for light and medium weight curtains to avoid bending or damaging the track. When it comes to metal, aluminium tracks are recommended for lightweight and medium weight curtains, whilst their flexibility makes them ideal for bay windows. Steel tracks are more durable and can hold the weight of a heavy curtain, though the lack of flexibility restricts their use to straight windows.

Shape: Curtain tracks can be used for both straight and curved windows. Aluminium and PVC tracks are both flexible enough to be bent into curved windows, though aluminium is preferable for extremely tight bends. Aluminium and PVC tracks can also be cut to size using a hacksaw to meet your needs.
